Huang Mian

 

Yan Guanxiong, male, ethnic Manchu (the Yehe Yanzha family), born in Beijing in the year of 1945. When creating artworks, Yan also goes by names of Huangmian, Yezhou, Sanjian Sheren. Yan’s grandfather is Yan Yutai who is the famous calligraphist in the late Qing dynasty and early Republic of China era when many of the shops used the name plague written by him in Beijing.

Yan showed interest in calligraphy since he was a child and he inherited the art tradition from his grandfather. Yan was taught by Qi Gong, Zheng Songxian, Zhang Bojv as he progressed in the learning of Calligraphy. Starting from imitating the calligraphy model of practice from the Jin and Tang dynasties, he then immersed himself in the inscription calligraphy classics of Han Dynasty, Wei Dynasty and Six Dynasties for more than 60 years. Calligraphy is Yan’s lifelong passion.

Yan is an artist of China Culture Union of Calligraphy and Painting Art Exchange Center, a member of Beijing Calligraphists’ Association, a member of Furen Calligraphy and Painting Research Center, a member of Manchu Changbai Calligraphy and Painting Research Center, and etc. His artworks were participated in various international and national level art exhibitions. One of his artworks from 1995 was collected by the Confucius House of Qufu, Shandong and carved on the rock for permanency. In the year of 2002, one of his artworks was selected by the China-Japan Calligraphy and Painting Competition, won the gold prize, and included in the published China-Japan Contemporary Art History Album. His other artworks were included in the Furen Alumni Calligraphy and Painting Album, Cross Strait Calligraphy and Painting Art Exchange Album, and other published art albums. Many of his artworks are also collected by International and National cultural instituions and collectors.
