Liu Liu

 

Liu Liu, born in Hunan province on December 28th, 1970. He graduated with a Fashion Design major in July of 1989 and then started attending Hunan Arts and Crafts Vocational College in September of the same year. From 1993 to 1995, Liu worked in the Print Design field. He has been making oil paintings since 1995.

Liu likes to use ordinary and even vulgar images from life to disassemble and assemble for his artworks. He could get the inspiration from a picture of naked girls at the newspaper and magazine stand, a wolf, two sheep, a tree, and etc. After countless tries and denials of compositions and painting techniques, Liu keeps only the vagueness and the hint of the images and he lets the images to reflect certainty yet confusion. Standing in front of Liu is like being exposed to a story after another story and a parable after another parable. Al of the stories and parables are pure, heavy, and beautiful.

Liu’s art captures so many incredible and uncertain strokes where some of them are made in 7 to 8 years apart. The process is long but what he presents on the canvas is relieved and enjoyable and we admire him for that.
